EGR reduction mod questions

I made the plate to reduce the size of the EGR inlet by the EGR valve. But, the post I found said to use 1/8" holes in place of the two larger holes already there. When I removed the EGR valve I found that only I only had one large hole. The second one is not there. The truck seems to run fine, I was just wondering if anyone else ran into this and had more time to play with it. Is one 1/8" hole enough or should I make it a little larger.

just wondering what you guys thought.

thanks,
Chris.

EGR reduction mod questions

I started with a larger size on the first attempt. Ended up with the 1/8 size for a fix. Some egr flow is better than none.

EGR reduction mod questions

well, I found a scrap piece of metal to make one of these things this weekend!

Does this only work on 300's, my friends got a 89 SHO and I was wondering if it would work on his engine too.

"94" SHO here I also would like to know. Is it worth it I only have 40,000 on that Yamaha engine.

With all this resticting of the EGR what effects on the emmisions does this have? Is it going to make it harder to pass??? Also, My truck now hesitates when I accelerate from a stop. Will the EGR restiction fix this...TY

EGR reduction mod questions

BlueMeanie & Rockstar,

Are you guys talking about Taurus SHO's?

Well, one way or another, rememeber this isn't really a 'performance' modification - it's a modification to get the engine to run the way it was supposed to from dead stops with manual transmissions.

Also remember that if designed right, a car or truck needs the full EGR flow to run right. If you guys do a search throughout the site, you'll find the V-8 owners have a problem with EGR blockage, and that cleaning the ports out makes their engines run better. I imagine the SHO would be the same, but then every application is so very different that only experienced users of each different engine would be the people to ask.

cdoyle, please use the 'Search' function of this site. Over in the 1987-1996 Trucks forum another guy posted the same exact finding. I admit I didn't look that closely at mine, I only copied the design on the two new gaskets I bought to seal it up. I now think all 300's were plugged up on one hole. This fitting of a different vehicle's EGR (probably a larger engine's) to the Inline Sixes supplies further probability that the overall OEM Ford-engineered design is just wrong, and that a mod is, or will be, required.

EGR reduction mod questions

I'm curious to know why people are blocking off their EGRs.

seebeew, blocking off the EGR will cause a rise in NOx emissions.

Yeah, Ford Taurus SHO's. He told me I could install one first to see if my engine would blow up!

There's a SHO website, not as good as this,
www.shotimes.com

I'm not worried about smog ****'s it'll be as easy to take out as it will be to make.

Rock On!
