The front suspension under my 97 psd 4x4 squeaks like someone who doesn't know what they are doing trying to call turkeys. is this because of movement between the leafs or is it coming from the worn out bushings at the hangers. do i have to replace something or is there a shadetree fix? i can find no easy way to get grease into these areas. someone point me in the right direction, please. it drives my wife nuts and embarasses my daughter when i pick her up at school!
the leafs on my ranger would squeek like that. i just put the straw in a can of wd40 and squirted both the bushings and in between the leafs. it would stop it for 6 months or so then i would have to resquirt.
energy suspension polyurethane bushings are the way to go. i would bet yours have seen better days. afternoon of torching and burning rubber and you got some new bushings its not to bad.
OK. so where do i get my hands on a set of those bushings. Also, do i need access to a hydraulic press to get old ones out/ new ones in or can that be accomplished with torch and hammer? What kind of life can i expect to get from the polyurethane as opposed to rubber?
thats exactly what i did. you can call me if you decide to go through with it so i can give you better instructions.. i hate to type a lot.
you can get all the part #'s here and then purchase them from summit. i did my whole truck it was well worth it. ride is great. i also did bilstein shocks at the same time.
Do you fellas have some kind of plastic spacers between the leafs on your trucks? It looks like there are some remnants in there on mine but not much left. Thanks for your help 1997f-350
well my stockers where shot at 130k and these have been on my truck for 30k and no problems and dont make any noise. so you can atleast expect 30k. i would assume they will outlast stock crap by a mile. my .02

there is 2 sleeves the one that goes in the wrap of the leaf and the one in the center that the bolt goes through. take a bottle torch and heat the center sleeve this will get all the old rubber melting out placing the heat on the rubber wont.once that is done all you got to do is lightly sawsall or pneumatic chisel the outer sleeve out and put the new stuff in. its cake. kinda messy though. make sure you do the melting outside very nasty stuff.
