A friend told me to buy straight 40wt for Florida weather since the 300 six burns oil and has 214k miles. However, with weak oil pressure, I don't know if this is a bad idea or not. I bought the 40 wt today but am waiting for your comments before putting it in. Since the motor burns a little oil, the thicker straight viscosity made sense and might reduce oil consumption, not sure though.
Yeah, I'd use it in the Florida summers. The thicker oil should bring up the oil pressure, too.
How many more mile do you want out of the engine? If only a few more you could try a product called "Restore", but I think it's really only good for one or two oil changes.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Apr-02 AT 07:51 PM (EST)]You ask how many more miles I would like to get out of the truck. Since the truck will be used for hunting and not highway transportation, hours will be a bigger factor than miles. For example, yesterday, I used the truck for 2 hours of continuous operation but only put 8 miles on it and never got out of second gear.
I should also add, I don't want to buy a truck that will be in need of constant repair. The lease is for fun, not work. I don't want to be working on this truck the whole time.
i would start thinking about finding a good donar engine and doing a swap. just a thought. if it's burning oil it's on it's last legs, but then the 300 6 would go forever
