I know my way around a gasser V8 fairly well but when it comes to turbo diesel i consider myself pretty much a novice at the moment.
To my point...
I was out to dinner with the family last night when a guy came into the parking lot of the restaurant in a late model CC cummins/dodge dually. the turbo whine was pretty loud even at idle and the turbo seemed pretty responsive to the slightest touch of the throttle. at some point the truck exits the parking lot and the guy lays into it and the truck absolutely freights down the road. I have a friend who has an '05 HO cummins that I've had a chance to test drive and it didnt perform or sound anywhere near what I witnessed last night. i was just curious what kind of mods this guy might be running to make his turbo so loud and so responsive to the slightest driver input.
I also noticed how quiet the motor was over the earlier cummins 12v motors. is it possible for it to sound like that on the stock turbo or is it likely an aftermarket?

the engine shouldn't sound any different based on turbo alone... but i'd still say it's a stock turbo, oh and chances are it's a 24v... what year would you say it is?? cause the CRs came out in 04 was it?? i don't know the exact year
good way to tell the difference between CR cummins and 24v cummins... did the exhaust system sound GOOD or ANNOYING? i find the CR exhaust sound to be pretty annoying myself, but everyone has their own opinion. the 24v sound GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if it was a CR then it probably was a stock turbo. one of my buddies is claiming 50psi of boost out of his stock turbo with stacked chips and 50hp injectors.
exhaust sounded good IMO. it was a pretty new truck, maybe a year old?!?! i was just amazed at how the turbo was singing at anything off idle, no lag at all. wish my truck had response like that.
