02 excursion 7.3 squeek...

hey guys well my dad's 02 excursion 7.3 (obviously) has started squeeking... the truck has about 60-65,000 miles on it.. i'll try to describe it best i can, as it revs the squeek speeds up (this makes me think it's probably something to do with the belt, maybe tensioner??) and from outside the truck it's pretty loud... just wondering if there's any common squeeky points on the NBS 7.3s... thanks guys

If the squeak is tied to engine RPM & not vehicle movement then your on the right track with the belt or pulleys. Is it still the factory belt? You can remove the belt and try moving each of the pulleys. That may or may not help since there will be no tension on them.

My 2001 SD does the same thing. I put on a new belt a year and a half ago, it stopped for a while. For the last year it's been doing it again. It pretty much goes away when it's warmed up. I just replaced all the pulleys, no luck. Then I sprayed some belt dressing on the belt, DON'T DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!It made the squeeeeek a hundred times worse and made a horrible, sticky mess. Soon I'll replace the belt again, but I only have about 7-10k on this one. My truck is very, very well maintained, but this squeek makes it sound like a P.O.S.

Have you tried a stethoscope to isolate the source of the noise?

oh by the way the only reason that we haven't looked under the hood yet is cause he hasn't been driving the excursion lately and we took it out last night and noticed the squeek... already VERY late by the time we got back home

If it's the stock belt I'd recommend changing it. I'm on the 3rd belt in my 02, but I change it every 100,000 miles.
