efi with headers

Is anyone here running a 92-96 EFI engine with headers? Where did you get them, how much, were they coated, and most important... how does it sound? I really want headers on my 95, but I'm afraid it's gonna sound crappy. Please give me some feedback here!!!

I have a 1995 EFI 351w. I bought a set of shorty headers for it. They sound great. No major sound difference below 2000 rpm. Above that it sounds sweet. I bought uncoated headers from Summit. They cost $220. It has only been a month, but so far they are great. No modification to the stock exhaust was necessary if you get shorty style headers. If you get full length headers, I am not sure how it will react with the computer.

Sorry, I forgot that you are probably running a six. From my past experience, the two piece exhaust manifolds are almost as good as a header.

95-96 models have very good flowing manifolds and wouldn't be worth it to change them. Cliffordperformance.com has some, but for the money vs hp increase, you are better off doing another mod because it is not worth the money or headache to install them.

Primary rig is:
95' F-150 EB 300/6 5 spd with 4" Superlift, MSD, Ram Air, Gibson Exhaust, 32" BFG Muds
NEW PICS IN MY GALLERY!! :-)

Then theres:
88' F-250 Superduty 351 + c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 and a
3 spd column shifter baby. Top speed, 65mph, Go Baby Go!

The newest addition to the Ford family is a 99' Mustang GT 4.6L

Thanks for the info. Here's the real problem I'm facing. I'm running stock headers and cats, hooked up to a Flowmaster 40 series dual outlet muffler. It makes a nice quiet rumble, but I want it louder, without sounding annoying. Would hollowing my cats, or getting high-flow cats make my exhaust growl instead of rumble?

Here's something weird, my truck doesn't hardly need a muffler, the CAT seems to take care of 90% of the noise.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Apr-02 AT 08:45 AM (EST)]I have ran my truck with out the muffler and its not loud enough to get a cops attention. Then stuck on an 8 foot long piece of gutter sticking out the back bumper just to see. It was much louder and had an amplified sound. (but not what I consider real good. Kinda raspy) It was interesting, just like a megaphone how it amplified the sound. I lost both convertors. Hollowed out retains stock appearance, straight pipe is better performance. And it is still not very loud, but without a muffler you get in-cab resonanse. I am running a generic turbo muffler with stock piping out behind the right rear tire. While not much louder it rumbles a bit more and runs muuuuuuuuuuuuch better. Trying to get it loud and good is difficult.

I tow. For torque I would stick with a single outlet pipe maybe 3" diameter. I think stock is 21/2"? If you want to drop some weight and be different replace the stock muffler with a high flow and turn it out just ahead of the rear wheel. And elemenate the piece that goes over the rear wheel. And I wont mention what to do with those cats. Try the restrictor plate on the EGR, also. If your not impressed take it off. If you rev your truck like a hot rod you might want dualls from the split manifolds back for higher RPM. That would be your best bet for loudness. My truck (96)very seldom sees the high side of 2000RPM. It doesent have too... Lets hear what you go with and how it works out.

Chris
