V10 Excursion Exhaust

I've got a V10 gas Excursion with about 110,000 miles. I want to get a little more power/noise out of it. How much louder will it be if I just do a muffler delete? What about and Aftermarket intake? I'm primarily interested in the muffler delete. Will it be just obnoxiously loud? Do I need to have it cut out at Midas or something or can i do it at home?

Thanks,
William

Try the intake first and if you really want more then do the exhaust. The exhaust can tend to drone esp in a SUV. Then again intakes can make a lot of noise if you are towing

How loud will it be over stock? Will I wake my neighbors just cruising down my neighborhood street?

No intakes are only loud when you are "getting down in it"

I wouldn't straight pipe the V10. An FM70 or Large Magnaflow muffler (Like they sell in there cat-back kit) would be the best IMO for a little extra sound and no drone.

Aftermarket intakes do produce a little more noise than the stock setup however it is very minimal and you get used to it very quickly. I like the sound.

The bank exhaust I have is not very loud while cruising, probably only 20% louder. On start-up it makes a pretty good and loud "bark". Towing or floored it is about 50% louder than stock. Most of the noise is toward the rear of the vehicle, which isn't bad for a pick-up, but I would imagine more of the noise is going to get inside an ex since it's passenger compartment the whole way back.

i have a FM 70 series. If u want a diff tone with a minimal sound increase then this muffler is for u, especially if u do alot of towing on steep grades where u have to rev that motor. The tone is different then stock, but i like this tone. Its also not to much louder over stock, if that is what ur looking for

Don't waste your money on any 3" cat-back kit. Your truck already has 3" mandrel bent pipe from manifolds to the tip. Just replace the muffler and save your money for other things. I found out about this the hard way. Bought the FM cat-back kit, cut off the old exhaust and put the kit on the truck. Afterwards, I measured a piece of the old pipe and found it to be the same size, and to have mandrel bends.

What is the fluttering noise they talk about with the Y pipe upgrade? I`de like to do the Y-pipe and a little better sounding tone from the exhaust. I don`t want it loud, and keep in mind I tow with it!

Actually, i just read Hybrids post and the FM sounds like the way to go!
