I never had the joy of seeing him live, but look up the video of his USO tour to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. To see him that respectful of our customs, and still retain his humor is a tribute to the man underneath the comedy.
He was one of the greatest performers of our time. From Genie, to Peter Pan, to Mrs. Doubtfire, to his stand-up, he was one entertainer that I really liked and respected.

It's a sad day.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems the past week has been a sad one for this Forum.
I don't know what happens to people like Robin Williams, or the lead singer from Boston, or Freddy Prinze, all of whom seemed to have everything in the world going for them and then one day it's as if they flip - and turn themselves off...

It doesn't make any sense.
If you've ever watched Robin play in some of his darker movies (Insomnia, One Hour Photo, etc) you'll see he played disturbed people so greatly, it was physically believable.
He was not only an amazing actor; He just had the gift of bringing joy to millions of people via a tv screen.
Myself included, have more enough fond memories of Williams' laugh and wit in movies that I now look back on, as childhood makers (Flubber, Aladdin, etc).
Remember this though; Depression hits all kinds, and all minds.
The ones that are the loudest, happiest and most outspoken, usually have a dark, quiet side to themselves that they don't let others see.
Robin also helped alot of comedians get there start. He helped when these people were no name's like Ben Stiller, Gerry Sienfield just to mention a few. nanew-nanew now that your up there, looking down on us Mork
Money cant buy happiness, It does at first but then there problems, just like ours hits em hard, people with camera's following you around, fans chasing after ya, no thanks. Let me hit the mega millions, take care of my family and give the rest away.
"What Dreams May Come", "Good Morning Viet Nam", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Awakenings" (with Robert DeNiro), "Moscow on the Hudson", just to name a few, were fantastic movies and his acting was incredibly good.
Robin Williams once said that he got his energy and drive from Jonathan Winters.
Jonathan Winters said that there's no way for anyone to keep up with Robin Williams.

There is a hole in the human soul that can only temporarily be filled with earthly things. In the relentless pursuit of peace and happiness, we mortals are often, sadly, misguided.
I don't know what drove him to think this was his only answer, but I know what may have saved him.
There's more than a few stories about the man Robin was, quite apart from his public persona. He seemed to have a genuine empathy for disadvantaged peopl such as the double amputee athlete he competed with and maybe more visilble was his involvement with Christopher Reeve after his unfortunate accident.
None of us can ever know what makes another take that final step to suicide and yet we all still wonder how it becomes their best choice.
Indeed R.I.P. Robin----your comedy and talent will be very much missed.
