Absolutely, thats why every Excursion came eqiupped with tow hitches from the factory. Heres 3 paragraphs from Ford explaining this safety feature.
"The Excursion engineering team thought about more than managing crash energy in front collisions when designing the vehicle. They also developed a separate underride system for rear collisions."
"Similar to underride systems used on commercial trucks, the Excursion features Ford's largest trailer hitch - standard on all models. The hitch spans more than 3 feet across the vehicle's rear and attaches to the frame."
"This 3.5-square-inch steel hitch is designed to help prevent lower-riding cars from sliding underneath the back of Excursion in rear collisions. It reduces the amount of intrusion into the passenger compartment of the car, decreasing the risk of injury to car occupants."

While I'll was looking for some more information on the front and rear Blockerbeam, I stumbled across this road test of the Excursion performed by the Auto Channel. This the only review I've ever read for the Excursion that the reviewer actually had a positive opinion of the Excursion. Good review you all should read it. http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicl...sion_2000.html
I fully believe that THIS is the main reason there are NO aftermarket receiver manufacturers that build and advertise a receiver for the Ex's. Eckhart has one BUT he MUST install it. All the others I believe simply do NOT want to get into the middle of a 'potential' lawsuit for a situation where some rice burning hybrid slips under our truck with an aftermarket receiver and some blood sucking ambulance chasing bottom feeder (yeah lawyer) takes the case and sues Ford AND the receiver mfg as being the reason his client is permanently disabled...
If all of the people who drove their ricers and sold them and bought excursions we wouldnt be talking about hitch lawsuits. Then there would be alot of after market hitchs
He said it doesnt have rear air bags and he doesnt want to tow the tow hauler with it because it has a tounge weight of close to 2k. Even though both trucks have the same tounge and tow capicity.
