I have the XCAL II from Matt and I was wondering if there is a way that I can adjust some things on my own such as the amount of fuel that is being used. I saw on the live load software that some settings are adjustable, but the options do not work. I as also wondering if I can data log everything going on in my truck through the XCAL while I am sled pulling or running at the track. Thanks.
There is next to nothng you can adjust fueling wise with the SCT software (unless you decide you REALLY want to, in which case you can buy a pro racer kit and write your own tunes from scratch )
As for data logging, yes you can log pretty well anything you want; you're a little limited because you can only log from either the PCM or the TCM at one time, so you may not be able to see all the parameters you want together.
It's pretty straight forward, I usually use my laptop in the truck, plug in the SCT to the OBDII port and your computer, start the LiveLink s/w; turn the key to the on position, select which module you want to monitor and configure the datalog items you want (you can save your datalog configuration so you don't have to set it up every time). Then start the truck; and when you want to start logging click the start datalogging button and off you go.
it's my understanding that if Matt leaves certain aspects unlocked in the program they are user adjustible. and the only one i've heard members here talk about is shift settings.
as for data logging the only obvious is that you'll need to take a laptop and your SCT with you for that.
I tried to do some data logging this morning but was unsucessful. I opened the live load program, connected the XCAL to the truck and the computer while the truck was running. I selected the parameters that I wanted to observe. When I click on "ok", a message comes up that says 'pass thru code failed" or something like that. Is there something I have to load into the XCAL so that it will comunicate with the laptop, or is there something else I am missing? Thanks.
I think it may be an order of operations thing. Try this:
1) Plug the SCT into the truck's OBDII port.
2) Plug the SCT into the laptop USB port.
3) Start the truck.
4) Start the LiveLink s/w.
5)Select which ECM you want to view, #1 is PCM #2 is TCM
6)Click the "Configure Datalog Items" button. At this time you should see a status bar saying Initializing PIDs or something similar. If you have to enter your processor code manually there is some kind of communication issue.
7) Select the signals you want to display, click OK.
8) Click the Start Datalogging Button, you should see another status bar and a PID message of some sort.
9) Stomp the throttle and see what happens
The SCT can be quite a pain to get the communication to go on. IDS is MUCH easier. SCT also has a forum that has some good information posted and that helps tremendously.
I haven't actually tried to datalog with the SCT yet, but it appears to be cumbersome and I don't like the way it displays it's data.
The Auto Enginuity is about as good as it gets and it's fairly cheap ($350). I have used it and love how easy it is to use and also how it displays the data. It will download the log file into an Excel spreadsheet so you can view every paramater side by side. You need a laptop to use it, but you do with the Xcal2 as well. The AE will read DTCs on all makes of vehicles, but you need to purchase the seperate modules to get real specific. For instance if you buy AE with the Ford module ($350) you can diagnose/datalog any Ford vehicle in depth. I guess it would be another $350 to add each additional make like GM, Dodge, etc.
The only problem that I have found so far with AE is that it reads ECT in celcius even when you have it set to farenheit. This is only on the 6.0 for some reason. Everything else works like it should.
