Yes there is. One-wicked-element, check under your hood in the relay boxes by the master cylinder. There should be a 20amp mini fuse in position 4, and a relay in position 38. Without these, I doubt the backup light would work automatically in reverse.

I installed cheap Harbour Freight fog lights, $10.00, under the hitch cross bar, tapped into the reverse wire for the trailer plug and then upgraded to 100W bulbs. No extra relay, no extra switch (I am going to add one for loading the snowmobiles) and no problems. I have about $22 and some time into my system and boy does it make it bright back there.
