aero front seats

Well,

My 89 is finally starting to wear at the seats - they are starting with hairline rips on the seat, towards the front, just from getting in and out, etc...

is there a product that can patch these, or are seat covers my only choice here, short of the seats being replaced?

which leads me to another question....

can I put any Aero seats in there? or is there a reason why that won't work? I'm thinking my local boneyard might have some?

These are the Grey Cloth seats... the ones that sit on a metal frame box, which attach to the floor...

Thanks

You can get some covers that accommodate the armrests. They range from plain to wild flame jobs and "NOS" logos. We added some up front a long time ago to protect the seats. I think I ordered them from Advance Auto.

unless ford changed the seat dimentions i don't see why you couldn't put new seats from a diff. areo in there. my 93, my dad's 94, and my mom's 95 all have the same style of seat you discribed

problem is finding decent quality Aero seats since they haven't been made for 10 years now.

heavy duty seat covers now the best option unless seat suspension material is broken down. see many Aero seats suffering from cheek overhang

I have never thought seat covers to be a solution. Maybe I'm just picky, but I would rather enjoy reupholstering them if I can't find good ones at the wrecking yard.

how much would it cost me to do that? They are fairly simple to take off (4 bolts) - I agree - I think covers would be a last resort.

The covers seem to always bunch up to me, I don't know... Local guy in town hasn't seen an aero in 5 years (junk yard)

so, I can put 97 seats in my 89? that was my main question - if I get lucky enough to find some...

I know they changed the dash in the 90's, and did away with the floor shifter, which I actually like - except it would be nice to have drink holders :-)

anyone solve that problem?

I did!

My family bought "aftermarket" cup holders for our aeros... they're blue, have two adjustable cupholders, a spot for sunglasses, and in the back it cd case slots. also has plastic teeth to grip to the carpet. great adition to replace the super big gulp tip issues when they don't fit under the dash, and its easyer to get to. (reaching strait down, vs. forward and down.)

i can take a pic of you like

The driver's seat in my 91 is collapsing under the cushion, so I always feel like I'm leaning to the left when I sit in it. Of course, that's the side that gets loaded most when someone gets in and out of it. I tried to find a similar seat from the boneyard, but all the ones with the matching uphostery are pretty trashed. But one of the things I've noticed in my searches is that the rear seat frames seemed to have changed over the years.

For cup holders, the center console that comes in certain years of the XLT model contains 4 of them; 2 in front, 2 in back. It is a complete unit that's installed behind the floor shifter, so I'm guessing it should fit at least the 91 and earlier models. There are some bits of reinforcement hardware under the floor pan that they fasten to. But again, most of what I found in the boneyard are pretty trashed.

mine is an 89 shorty - floor shifter, and just that little square "cup" that holds like spare change, etc... it's basically just the shifter trim....

now that I say that, does anyone know what the bulb is for that window there? mine has been out for years, and I keep forgetting to get one for it.

I was actually thinking about just buying one of those center columns that they make, and they have them now with built in coolers that will plug into the cig lighter - will hold like a 12 pack of whatever, and keep them cold, and the lid doubles as a tray/cup holder, etc...

I don't know how they work, etc... I would want to secure it too right to the floor, or maybe brackets to the seats there...

in anycase... yeah, the boneyards are getting to be slim pickings for our aeros!

Did Ford make anything else that worked as good as these old vans? I'd love to buy something like it again, mostly for the reliablity factor... was it the last 10+ year car/van/truck that ford made?
