'97 F150 electrical
I have a 1997 Ford F150 extended cab 4x4. Around Christmas time I experienced the 4x4 LOW indicator light going on and off intermittantly - the problem went away after a couple of days, so I shrugged it off. Today, the problem is back along with some new buddies - the check engine light is on, the airbag light flashes at me, the speedometer is dead along with cruise control, and the engine died twice. I am suspecting the PCM or GEM, but don't know how I can diagnose. Bought a code reader (for $150) and got P0500 and P0720 codes indicating a problem with the speed sensor...don't really think that is the problem and will probably return the device. I have also heard noise under the dash near the fuse box that sounds like electrical arcing (very faint and infrequent) - don't really want to re-wire the vehicle too bad. I would really appreciate any experience that other Ford owners may have with these symptoms.Thanks in advance,

i wouldnt rule out speed sensors so quickly. There should be two of them on your transmission, an input and an output. The failure of one of those will cause all of the simptoms you described. If i were you i would head over to my local aamco (they are all independantly owned and operated and my local one happens to be very good) and have them do a diagnosis. Mine charges 30 bucks. Just my two cents. For a quick thing to do you might want to clean off the connectinos on the transmission (there are more than two but there are two for the speed sensors. you just have to find them )and jiggle them a little and see if that does anything.
