I know this should prob be in the other section but i want advice from 6.0 owners. What is the nicest lift as in ride quality and towing capacity, im thinking of 4 or 6 with 35 or 37's...What kind of mileage should i see with either, and performance wise, how bad is it going to kill me, thank you!! Jocaren(joe-car-en)not joe-care-en lol
its weird i put on at first a 2inch lift with 35's this killed my mileage and made it go from 17-18 now i get around 15...then i put a 6inch lift on and it did not affect my milage at all so it was the tires that hurt it.
I've got an 07 F350 with a Pro-Comp 6," It sucks (Gotta retorque and align all the time), and I drive like a grandpa mostly unless the little Hondas get out of line. I've heard great things about the Fab-Tech 6". A co-worker with an 04 6.0L loves it. Yeah, 37's killed my mileage. I'm getting average 13.4 city/highway mixed, with diesel at $3.70 it's a bummer.
I'm happy with mine, you can see pics in gallery. I went from 17mpg 50/50 city/hwy to 15.5 with the larger tires and lift. This was also when diesel changed from 500ppm sulfur to 15ppm sulfur, so I don't know for sure if the decrese in mpg is all due to the lift/tires or in part with the new fuel. It still tows just fine with the 35's. I think with 37's a regear may be needed if you tow.
I just did a 4.5" Donahoe Racing lift kit. Had to also add the one inch spacer on the front and a taller block to clear the 35's. So if you do the math, I am at 5.5" of lift. So far, I like the lift. Would have been nice if I could have had the Fabtech installed and then the DR installed to do a comparison. But that is obviously not an option. I decided on the DR cause it is suppose to have a slightly better ride then the Fabtech.
As far as mileage and power goes, both went down. I was getting 16 to 18 on the interstate and now probably average 14 to 15 (still working on figuring it out....only on week three or so with the lift). Another way to look at it is I was getting around 450 miles to a tank (sometimes closer to 480) and now I am probably around 390 to 410. I would say I lost about 50 to 75 miles per tank. I lost a little bit of power, but not a lot. With a little luck, a turbo back exhaust system and a tuner might make up for the loss in power....and maybe help gain back a mpg or so.
Best ride is somewhat subjective with a suspension system. However, the hands down favorite for quality is Donahoe Racing or Rize. Give Marty at Truck Toyz Performance a call and talk with him, he is an FTE sponser and builds some amazing trucks. http://trucktoyzperformance.com/
Here is a thread with some of his work, see post 14 http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...-lift-kit.html
We recommend high performance systems by Donahoe Racing and Rize. These systems feature outstanding design, construction and performance. System are available in radius arm or 4-link configurations. I would be happy to discuss your requirements with you so please don't hesitate to contact me via PM or by phone.
Keep in mind that when you switch to larger tires unless you have your speedometer corrected you are actually traveling further than what is reflected by your odometer. Therefor if you are calculating fuel milage based on the number of miles you are achieving on a tank of fuel you must also correct for the additional distance traveled per revolution of the tires. Say you had 265/70-17s (32") stock which produce 648 revs per mile, and switched to 35/12.5-17s (35") which now produce 595 revs per mile, your revolutions per mile were reduced (or distance traveled increased) by 9%. Therefor, if you were getting 450 miles per tank with the 32s and now show to be getting 410 miles per tank on 35s, when you add in the 9% correction you actually traveled 447 miles. Little to no significant net difference in milage.
So if i get the dr 4.5 with 35/12.50's am i going to have to upgrade my wheel width, its stock now! Is my ride going to change and most of all how is the sound in cab with the tires (TOYO M/T's)I travel 55k a year

OEM rims are 8-inches wide, minimum rim width for 35x12.5 is 8.5", recomended rim widths are 8.5"-11". The safest route is to go with new wider rims, however you can generally mount tires on a rim that is only 1/2" narrower than recommended, but you may get a little more tire squirm and uneven tread wear. Comparing a M/T tire to a highway tread tire you will definitely get more noise on the highway. As far as ride quality in a lifted truck, generally you are going to change the ride characteristics anytime you alter the suspension from factory. As i said earlier ride quality is subjective and dependent on the end users expectations. Talk with Marty directly and he can help answer your questions.
