Have a 66 F-100 with a 300-I6 that will be pushing 190+ horses. Will the 3 speed and overdrive hold-up?? What about converting to a 86 AOD automatic overdrive trans? Is this possible? What has to be done to make it work?? Thanks Bob

What about converting to a 86 AOD automatic overdrive trans? NO!, don't do that!! Is this possible? What has to be done to make it work?? Thanks Bob
You have the Warner T-85 overdrive? That is a VERY desirable transmission, so if you get rid of it...lemme know. The Warner trans is strong, and will get you better mileage than the POS AOD, which was a turd of an automatic from day one.
Dunno what HP my 65 F100 has now, because I built the original 352 into a 390, adding an RV cam and a 4V. The Warner Overdrive, has held up for 42 years-186,000 miles, with only new bearings, seals and the 2/3 syncro blocker rings replaced.

The conversion to the AOD is possible but there are some modifications which need to be done. I did this myself over a 5-day period and the overall cost was about $1k including transmission, shifter, driveshaft cut, torque converter, kickdown (TV) cable, flexplate, and assorted bolts. My goal was to go from 3-spd manual to auto overdrive. I only suggest you really consider what your goal is before you jump into this task.
