can somone please give me the right info in regard to correct level my tanny should be after warmed up..keeping in mind that I tow a 5th wheel also..I read so many different thoughts on the correct level that I am confused...any techs out there can give me the correct level..with thanks ..the winemaker 2003 f350psd 4/4 drw kr
You should have two marks on your dip stick (cold and hot). After warmed-up, it should read at the hot mark. I understand you are emphasizing towing the 5th wheel, but I would drive it around a little without the 5th wheel behind you and get it up to normal operating temperature. At that point, you should add or remove enough fluid to get the fluid level to the hot mark. Then don't worry about where it lands on the stick when pulling the 5th wheel. I would guess it will show higher on the stick when you are pulling a lot of weight because the fluid will be hotter than normal, which will cause it to expand more.
f250tuff..thanks for reply..before i ghanged fluid it was in centre of cross hatchon hot just a shade over the H incentre of cross hatch so if I bring fuid up to this make again I will be OK ?? the winmaker
f250tuff...sorry for mispelt wording ..I will try again (get my fingers in proper place) before I changed fluid it was just slightly past H on hot cross hatch..so..if i get it (new fluid) to same level it will be correct??? the winemaker

yes but realize that the proper way to check tranny fluid is after driving about 10-20 miles and with the engine running of course. that way the tranny is up to operating temps. and belive me it takes that long as i look at my aftermarket tranny temp gauge. because like he stated transmission fluid expands as it heats up
raptor131 has you covered. If it was just slightly above the H mark (driven 10-20 miles and without the 5th wheel hooked up), I would lower it to the H mark. The bad thing about having too much trans fluid is that it can start seeping past your seals.
In relation to tranny fluid levels, I changed out my filters in my 2007 PSD 4X4 and now when its at normal temp it reads in the cold range and when it's cold it reads in the hot range. Any ideas?

Are you checking it with the truck running if you arn't the convertor will drain down when it is sitting and give you a high reading, this would mean that your hot reading that is low would be correct.
How many miles when you guys are changing it out? I have 33K and the fluid looks brand new.
Per your FMC manual, fluid and external filter should be changed every 30k miles. Use only Mercon SP fluid, do not use universal transmission fluids in the Torqueshift.
