I just got a call from a buddy, 2004 F250 6L.. It straight died 3 times today heading to the office.. Said its been leaking oil on the driveway, he thought rear seal.. He checked and it appears to come from the top of the block..
I haven't had a chance to get out there and look however he's certain he is under 100k for warranty. He was under the stipulation he didnt have it because he bought from a non-ford dealer.. Told him it don't matter, Ford honors it period.. So he's double checking his mileage..
However, I feel that it may be an HPOP situation since it's straight dying.. HPOP looses pressure, injectors don't fire hence the instant die.. Anything else? Maybe turbo pedastal o-ring?
I won't know for sure until I get down and can see it.. Hard to diagnose over the phone lol
Could also be a bad ICP sensor or shorted sensor wire. The ICP may be were the oil leak is coming from as well. Hopefully he has a Job 2 04 with the relocated ICP sensor. Also check fuel filters etc and when was the last time he changed oil.
Massive puddle of oil under the truck... Leak path looks to be top valley down D/S through spacer between Trans Bell and block.. I'm leading to ICP.. Ongoing symptoms were sputtering and rough running (couple weeks) following 3 straight dies.. I just hope he didnt damage more along the way.. They are 122k miles so no warranty :-\
Appears the ICP is infact under the charger, pre 04 engine in 04 F250.. Not cool, thank GOD mines on the valve cover!
I would be willing to bet it is the STC fitting causing the startng and staling concern and when some of them break they crack the rear aluminum engine cover and 1000 PSI while cranking right at the crack will give ya one hell of a leak.. saw 2 in the last month..
I didn't know the STC fittings were a concern on the 03 engines.
Storm--Ford changed engine production date 9/29/03. There were 04 trucks that had the ICP under the turbo.
woops, I did not see the truck was an '04!!! oh well, but the ICP pressure is capable if breaking the rear engine cover.
mid '03 down is in the pump next to the IPR. PITA just like the rear turbo bolt when compared to '04.5 and up... may need the pigtail too if it has hydraulically pushed oil into the harness..I have seen them an other sensors push al the way into the circuits module and cause very odd concerns.
