Do any of you use a mini-spool in your 2wd trucks. My 66 is only driven maybe 100 miles a month so tire wear is no big deal.It is a very peppy motor and easily breaks one tire loose.I dont wont to spend several hundred dollars on this rear so a mini-spool is perfect cost wise. What is your opinions on that?
if its a 28 spline 9" i wouldent think about it, i helped put one in a friends truck and the next day or the day after he exploded an axle shaft, i snapped a 28 spline axle shaft with an open diff and a dead 302. 31 is questionable it might hold or it might not.
Finally got around to installing a mini spool in between those 28 spline axles. I love it. took it real easy at first then got to playing. the law had pulled me over within two hours of backing out of the garage! I did donuts till i was dizzy and someone called in on me. Needless to say ive got friends in low places, so no ticket was issued. I hope the rearend holds up to my lead foot
I ran a spool in the back of my daily pickup for years. Eventually I broke an axle. With a spool the axle ends up acting like a torsion bar. I'm sure you've noticed this by now, the tire kinda skids in bursts as you turn. This will eventually stress and break the axle.
But it's alot of fun to drive isn't it. Axles are easy to replace and with a 9" the broken one won't go anywhere like out the side of the truck like it would with an 8.8. And with the spool you when it does eventually break you can still limp home to fix it.
