Anyone know what the I9 axle code refers to (gear ratio)? I have a list of all of the codes, but I9 is not listed. Looks like it could also be 19, but that's not on the list either. This comes from the ID tag on the driver's side door frame...

It's 19 not I9.
1983/86 Ford Rear Axle / 3.55-1 / Non Limited Slip / 3750 lb. Rear Axle Capacity
1987/91 Ford Rear Axle 8.8 / 3.55-1 / Non Limited Slip / 3800 lb. Rear Axle Capacity
The decoder in the parts catalog doesn't say whether 1983/86 is a 8.8 or a 9 inch.
The 8.8's have a removable inspection cover, the 9's do not.
