Which programmer to buy

I have a 1995 PSD 5-spd crew cab dually and I'm looking to purchase a programmer for it.

Ive checked out the big name programmers
Hypertech
Edge
Bully Dog
Superchip
etc.
and they are nice but a bit pricey for me. then while browsing ebay, i see several generic programmers without all the bells and whistles and for a fraction of the cost.
I'm basically looking for a horsepower increase and nothing more(dont care about recalibrating shift points and speedo, etc.) but dont want to spend too much money. so my question is... which one is the best for the $$$$? Does anybody have input (good or bad) about the generic programmers? do they perform as advertised?

this is what caught my eye
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWDVW

is this thing worth the money? any info would be appreciated. Thanks

For your truck, there's only one we would recommend--the Edge Evolution.

Here's a link to our site for this programmer:

GOGOMAN,
I went to the link you posted and the manufacturer claims the his programmer is for 1994 to 2007 OBD2. Cant this be right? I have a 94.5 and I was led to bileve it is OBD1 as all are up to 96???

Powerstrokes come with an OBD-II compliant connector. I think the first Fords to have OBD-II were the 1994.5 Powerstrokes.

If you're having troupble finding the connector, it should be located at the bottom edge of the dashboard, just to the left of the glove box.

I have heard so much talk about the Superchips controller. What advantages does the Edge have over the Superchips?

The Edge Evolution for the older Powerstrokes has been a proven performer. Compared to the Superchips 1705, it provides more power and torque across all three power selections. Also, it displays Trans Temp, Oil Temp, RPM and Exhaust Backpressure.

When you say you've seen much about Superchips, do you mean SCT or Superchips? I ask because sometimes people get confused with these two, and they are definitely different companies and products.

Specifically the 1705. I have a co-worker that swears by it but I'm not sold that easily. I want to know I'm getting the most for my buck before I take the dive.

The PSD is new to me so I'm trying to learn what works well, and why, as I go along. I have been accused of overanalyzing things, which I know I do, but I just want to know why things work and why they don't and how one mod compliments another.

Thanks.

You're doing the right thing. Research usually pays off, and this forum has its share of stories where people bought something that wasn't quite what they hoped for. I helped a guy this week that bought a new programmer (not from us) and to make a long story short, he's selling it.

Asking is free. I answer many emails a day that don't always convert to sales, but that's OK. The boss says we're here to serve, so that's what we do. In a world where customer service is nearly non-existant, it's refreshing to work with people who actually care and try to do the right thing for the customer.

I am looking at a chip for my PSD and am talking with DPS Performance. He is more local to me and is giving me a very good price installed compared to the others. Plus with the truck there he can get his tunes set for the truck as it is set up.
