I used a Superchip 1705 on my 95 psd.It was ok & gave good power & fair mileage on the lower setting. I'm sure there are many better tuners on the market now for the early PSD motors. There weren't many when I had my 95. You really need to put a larger turbo down pipe on if you plan to add a tuner to a early PSD. The stock one is very small & restrictive. I changed mine & it made a huge difference.

Are you referring to just the down pipe or a down pipe AND turbo?
Speaking of down pipes, a local diesel performance shop stocks complete 4" aluminized exhausts for $415 and says they'll install it on my 97 for only $65... that includes the necessary cuts and mods for the 3" down pipe. Heck, for $65 I'd let them do mine twice! Beats laying on my back wondering if I'm cutting and bending in the right places.
Is aluminized sufficient or should I go stainless?
I replaced mine with a 4" stainless steel from the turbo back. I used stainless because the use salt on the roads around here year around. If salt is used on your roads I'd go stainless. Mine only cost me $389.00 and $100.00 for the local muffler shop to install.
I just changed mydown pipe & straight piped my truck. Superchips recommended changing the pipe before running the top setting. A whole turbo back exhaust would be even better
