Question flywheel problems, need help

i found this place while looking for and answer (which i never found) to a question, i have a 1986 f-150 4x4 that i recently bought with a cracked block so i pulled the whole bottom end out of a 1982 f-150 and am rebuilding for that truck (the machine work is being done as we speek) but the parts truck (1982) was a stick and the good truck (1986) is a automatic and the wholes where you bolt the flex plate to the crank dont line up by putting the 1986 flexplate on the 1982 crank i dont know if i have to find a flexplate from a 1982 300 6cyl or if its a stick to auto trans problem or if i could get a flexplate from a 1981-1982 302 and it would be the same, (im learing with the whole ford thing i have run dodges and chevys and had bad luck so im trying my luck at fords now) any ways i stumbled upon this web sight and thought you guys would be able to help me. (im new here, so by the way whats this "post a poll" thing on the post a new thread page ? )

thanks,
DVS

So what motor is going to be going into the truck? I'm seeing 300 and 302, but don't want to assume anything.

Allright, then you have to use a flywheel or flexplate off of a 300-6. 300's are internally balanced while a 302 is externally balanced.

Also all of the flexplates and flywheels for a 300 have the same bolt pattern between the crank flange and the plate.

Try rotating the flywheel or flexplate, it may only bolt on one way.

so you are saying that the flexplate from the 1986 300 - 6 that had an automatic will fit on the 1982 300 - 6 that had a granny for speed behind it, so all 300 - 6cylinder fly wheels should be the same then ?

yes, they all have the same flange pattern from 1965 until the end of production around 2002.

But IIRC, they only go on one way. The pattern isn't symmetrical.
