Question More Power

I am going to split my exhaust pipe to make it dules. Where would I split it and how much HP will I gain?

Why not buy a dual exhaust kit? You wont gain as much power as you'd think but you'll help reduce EGT's which means for a happier engine.

I like to design my own when I can.I have a welder a cutting tourch and everything I need to work on it. I am retired and have all the time in the world... Thanks

I would split it as far towards the front as possible. Try not to make big bends in the pipe and you should be fine.

I would go against the consensus and say that if you just have to have duals, split the pipe as far back as absolutely possible.....nearest the spare tire as you can.

My reason for this is that the exhaust flow through the pipe is not a steady stream. Even though, yes, there should be more flow through duals, the exhaust pulses will be disrupted and less apt to flow freely through the pipe. The more length of single exhaust you have, the better the exhaust velocity you will have.

You won't gain ANY hp with a dual setup.

I am assuming that you have a turbodiesel.....

I just ran through your old threads and see that you have a 93 IDI.

My ruling still stands...don't dual it out until the very back.

A larger, less restrictive "y" pipe would help too.
