Transmission Adapters For Y-block powered trucks

Howdy people,

There's been a lot of discussion about transmission adapters. Most of us would LOVE to use a modern transmission like a C-6, AOD,E4OD, T-5, ZF S-542/547 etc. in our trucks instead of a T-18/19/98 etc.

The AOD is a perfect alternative behind a Y-block in the F-1/100-2/250.

But for people like me with an F-4/5/6/500/600 An AOD just would not cut the mustard if we actually want to haul what the truck is supposed to be able to haul!

The E4OD is a much better choice because it can be built to the 16,000 lb capability needed(My E4OD came out of an F-450)

Bendtsen’s Transmission Center Inc.
13603 Johnson St NE, Ham Lake, MN. 55304 makes adapters that would fill the bill for all the above transmissions but he only makes the adapters that work in a car. I spoke with Bob Bendtsen and he told me that he's had people ask for an adapter that takes the old Ford truck bellhousing chassis mount into consideration but he said he needs a truck there to make the measurements and make the adapter specific to a truck.

I think there's enough people here that would like to adapt a newer AOD/C-6/E4OD etc that it would make it worthwhile for him to make it and if someone who lives near Bendtsens were to take their truck to him for the first one that person might get a sweet deal on the first one.

(I didn't ask him about that but it makes sense that the first person to take his truck there might get a good deal.....Maybe FTE should approach him also about advertising here too.)

If there's someone that lives near Ham Lake MN and you're thinking about putting an automatic in your Y-block powered truck you might go over there and talk to Bob.

The rest of use will benifit when he starts making the adapter that will allow easy adaptation to the more modern transmissions.

Cheers,

Rick

Have you looked at this place
http://www.quicktimeinc.com/products.html

They are building a whole new product line of bellhousings, including Flatheads and Y-Blocks.
Now would be the time to let your needs known as the are still making new tooling and are in the R&D stage of some Ford stuff.

What would be the plan for having an emergency brake behind the automatic transmission?

I would mount it on the front of the rearend. That way if you were working on the truck or snapped a universal joint you would still have an e-brake.
Thats has always been a big dislike of mine.

I would just use the same E-brake that was bolted to my E4OD. It's pretty effective.
http://www.powerbrakes.com/zf.html They bolt right up to the ZF and the E4OD
Looking at the drive line.....I don't think you'd break it. It's pretty hefty...

I donno.....If you snap a U-joint and lose your main brakes at the same time.......you would probably be subject to getting struck by lightning before you hit anything.....

I like the E4OD because the one from the Super Duty diesel is VERY heavy duty and has a 0.71 OD.

That's how the military humvees are. Effective, but if you forget to release the lever, the heat will melt the gas tank above it. Not one of AM GEN.'s best ideas, lol. Yeah, I know...

If I was working on the truck I would chock it. That's probably the safest.

Drive line brakes don't work very good if you lift a rear wheel.
