oil pump blues
Went out of town today, about 50 miles, about halfway through trip noticed a mechanical tapping noise from within the block during acceleration. I stopped alongside road and checked the oil level, things looked OK about a quart low, proceeded back into town and noticed that when I approached hills the truck slowed down to about 40 miles an hour, meanwhile good indications on the oil and temp guage, by this time engine tapping noise turning into a loud knocking noise, oil and temp guage remaining at normal levels. Was about a block from the garage here in town,and noticed the oil pressure guage dropping intermentantly, pulled into garage and shut engine down, engine not smoking and oil not leaking, oil level still about a quart low, mechanic said he thinks oil pump failure, along with any damage that may occured while operating engine without oil circulation, has anyone out there experienced this type of failure, any ideas on damage or cost? 1989 BRONCO/300INLINER6/C-6
