Time for new tires for my 2001, Rear Wheel drive S'crew. The Wholesale club carries Michelin and Uniroyal. Anybody have comments on these tires and what model would you would recommend? I have the orginal Generals, and they have always been poor as far as traction is concerned. Would like to get something with a little more grip, that would be able to go in the snow or even wet grass without getting stuck.
I have run the Michelin LTZ M/S tires on a couple of vehicles and they are excellent. I also have to say my current tires on my 03 supercrew 2wd are the Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revo and these are the best tires I have ever run, on any vehicle. They are in the same price range and are worth looking into.
I also have the Bridgestone Dueller Revo's on my 2003 4X4 and these have been the best tires I ever bought. They are far superior to the Goodyear Wrangler's that were on it form the factory.
I would have to agree with the Bridgestone Revo's, excellent tire. You cant go wrong with Michelins either. Michelin has an all terrain but I can't recall what they are called. I would steer clear of the Goodyear brand. I have never had a set last more than 20,000 miles. JMO..
I just ordered Revo's for my truck, should get them next week. I'm replacing a set of Michelin X Radial LT's. My only beef with the Michelin's was that I had one blow out on me. Fortunately, it was a front tire and it was surprisingly controllable (I was doing 70 on I-95 with cars to the left and right). One of the rare occasions that I had my truck on the interstate and had my kids with me. Probably an over reaction, but it'll be a while before I buy another set of Michelins.
i agree with chris f-250....I have a set of 31" Michelin Ltx/MS on my bronco, and a set of 32" Ltx/MS on my f150. you can lock the hubs and 4-wheel with these, and they ride smooth as can be, and last a long time. in my opinion these are the best truck tires on the market!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I own a fleet of service vehicles and run nothing but Michelin tires. Great ride, great handling, decent traction.
Four sets of Michelins (3 LTXs and 1 set Cross Terrain) and have been very pleased with all of them. It is very rare to ever hear of a Michelin tire not exceeding the stated warranty mileage .
I think the LTXs are one of most under rated all-terrain tires out there. Yes, they are great highway tires, but with decent tread left they can flat out sling some mud if you need them to. Very self-cleaning for a "highway" tire and can handle curves on pavement like a street tire.
My mother had a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires on a Ford Explorer she used to have and they didnt impress me much. They howled like crazy at highway speeds and werent very good tires in rain, snow or ice.
You are going to find a million different opinions on this subject, but Id personally go with Goodyear Wrangler AT/Ss. Ive got them on my '99 F-150. They last a long time (and Im hard on tires), dont howl very much at highway speeds and have good rain/snow/ice/mud traction.
