I know ive seen the answer to this somewhere before but cant find it im gonna have to replace my clutch and want to go to an 11 inch disk Ive read that it will bolt up to existing flywheel but need diffrent bolts ? is what size bolts what grade and how many? also is the 11 inch disk the way to go? any feedback greatly appreciated thanks by the way 92 f150 flairside 300 6 113000 mi
Im pretty sure the bolts that are used on the 10 In pressure plate will thread into the holes on the flywheel for the 11 In pressure plate . Check with your local Ford Parts person when you buy the new parts just to be sure .
Hey,I did this very same change to my 89 f150 4.9 liter mazda 5 speed trans, first of all it just bolts up no problems that way.Now how much did I gain, nothing. The 11 clutch is too stought for the 4.9 liter. The clutch won't slip correctly,It just wants to immediately grab and that makes the whole drive train strain under the pressure.I'm going back with the 10 in clutch. You really won't like the way it operates if you do it.Let me put this in perspective the Mustangs with all thier HP also use the 10in clutch.Billy
My '68 240 came with the 11" clutch and I just replaced it with another with the same long-style pressure plate and it feels really nice and not grabby at all. I know the UPS trucks at work use a 14" clutch with the 300 and they don't seem to have any problems either.
the flywheel on my truck is drilled and taped for both 10" and 11" clutch. i have an 11" clutch in mine, i don't know if its because of having 4 wheel drive or not, but thats what was in it and thats what i put back in. should be the same bolts. if not use atleast a grade 5 bolt. not sure of the thread or size. i think they are 3/8" bolts for the 11" clutch, still not sure of the thread size though. i have to replace the clutch in my uncles truck soon(96 f-150 4.9L 4x4) i will definetley check the bolt sizes when i do that one and i'll post it. not sure of how soon i'll be getting to it. you may get yours done before i get to his but i'll post it when i do. by the way mine(95 f-150 4.9L 4x4) seems to be fine with the 11" clutch.
Thanks for the info guys hopefully I can find the time to do it soon accually not sure if the clutch is bad or just the slave cylinder but while im there im gonna change everything
If its hard shifting, its probably the hydraulic cylinder at the peddle. Look for fluid leakage and if that's it, eventually you won't be able to crank it because of the lack of throw and the safety switch that makes the peddle be pushed before it'll crank. I've heard the same thing about the Ford F150 10 clutch, they're strong and last forever. I guess we all think bigger is better, but in this case, I think the stock clutch does a great job.
Tip: put a broken off golf tee in the clutch peddle switch to keep that circuit open. Then you'll never have to press the pedddle in to crank it again. Its fits perfectly.
I would love to upgrade to the 11" clutch. I was actually pondering this last Friday night on the way home from the drag strip. My stock clutch slipped badly at the starting line on a couple of passes.
