On paper, the Tundra is a great truck. it just didn't translate from paper to reality very well. my biggest beef is the 6 speed transmission and 4.30 gears

what use is 6 gears when the 1st 2 gears are granny gears? then you put 4.30 gears on top of that. the motor is already putting out 380ish ponies. that is more than enough giddy-up for most people. that 6 speed should have been geared for MPG. think of how that would have driven the industry to follow suit. I'd love to see a full size 1/2 or 3/4 ton get 20 mpg consitently

edit: oh yeah, nobody has mentioned lately that the thing is just butt ugly
here's a dyno of one of those things, it should make perfect sense why they need 2 granny gears and 4.30s in the rear end. 4900rpm torque peak. it's a sports car v8 put into a truck. hp/tq sells, but unfortunately, you need a bit more than 0-60 stats in a truck... need things like a tail gate and stuff...

but I do wish our trucks had a better tranny... or that my truck came w/ bigger gears :P

What gets me is the amount of people that think it's just the best ever simply because it has Toyota written on it. As was mentioned earlier, they all (foreigh cars) have this "cheap feel" to them. Granted american manufacturers have put some crap out there but all & all I will take a Ford or Chevy over a "Toy"ota any day.

My wife convinced me to purchase my first ever foreign car last Jan. She decided on a Toy RAV4. Piece of crap. The tranny goes bizerk in cruise and Toyota says it's a characteristic of the vehicle and not a problem. You cannot drive comfortably while using the cruise but it's not a problem!!!! When this one is gone, and it will be soon, another Yota will NOT replace it!
So many American's have it in their minds that foreign cars are superior but they do not realize that this is crushing our country. I know everyone has their own experiences and opinions but I am currently driving my forth ford escort. It has 193K miles, burns no oil and gets 40mpg on the highway. The previous three were all sold with over 200k and were running find. One was bought by an employee 6 years ago and she still drives it daily. I'll put that up against ANY foreign vehicle.

it clearly states in the toyota owners guide that the tail gate is only to be used as a cup holder and not to exceed six cups or five cappuccinos.

I love the Tundra commercial where the woman says, "If my grandad where still alive I am sure this is the truck he would be driving".

Grandad probably carried a rifle on Guadalcanal and there would be no way he would ride in, much less, buy a Toyota. Bet the old boy is rolling over in his grave.

Oh yeah, Tundra is a butt ugly truck. I'll keep my F150.

gpeade, i definatley agree. I know a multitude of American cars that have 150-300 K on them and still run run just fine. I just can't understand how people think American cars are more reliable. Foriegn cars are more expensive, cost more to repair, hurt our economy here at home, and I really can't think of anything good about them.

The reason people buy foreign cars eludes me. I spent two years in Japan. Yeah, their cars and trucks were tough, but no tougher than any other cars, and the national speed limit was 60 KPH. (37 MPH) During the first third of the last century, American branded cars were what sold in Japan. They built, and sold their own, but somewhere around 10 percent, if memory serves me. In the mid 30's, they nationalized our plants, requiring that a minimum of 50% of foreign (American) companies had to be co-owned by the Japanese. Their small companies became overnight, co-owners of the American plants. Just before they declared war on us, they took the factories completely over. All the plants were later bombed into dust, except for the Ford plant. After the war, they rebuilt the plants, all nice and new. When I was in Japan 68 to 70, a Honda was the length of my sofa, literally. Oh, by the way, the import tariff was 125% on an american car! Plus, all agricultural goods that had a japanese competitor, waited on the docks to be inspected, until they showed signs of spoilage. The gas shortage of the early 70's made them attractive, and we in truth, were building some boring, tired stuff. Their cars were all smaller than ours, built with national support from Japan, EXTREMELY friendly trade practices from the U.S. (One-way ONLY), robots, and the japanese Team approach. Oh, by the way, at that time, most Japanese workers worked their vacation, for FREE! End result, cheap, economical, reliable cars with a good support system. This was just one part of an attempt to take over a money-making operation in the U.S. Does anyone remember the "dumping" of electronics in the US to take away our advantage? How about the "dumping" of their motorcycles to drive out the competition and kill off Harley-Davidson? In case anyone doesn't know what "dumping" is, it is sellling your product at less than cost, to drive your competitor out of business. When they first started building their U.S. built cars, and trucks here, strangely enough, systems, or parts built by local suppliers, to their "EXACT" specifications, failed, and of course, just had to be ordered, and built in Japan! Am I prejudiced, you bet I am. Hey, compete with the U.S. It is good for us, but don't try to cheat me, pee on my leg, and tell me it's raining. Sure, Japan has NO natural resources. Sorry, but that is not my problem. Putting two plastic seats in the back of a Subaru Pickup, and calling it a car, entitling it to a favorable trade status, IS my problem. Compete with me, but do it fairly. I lived in Japan for two years, and I loved it. BUT, their system is not good for their competitors. Now, the japanese cars are not inexpensive, but in my humble opinion , are being supported by people that think that any japanese product is a status symbol. Proof? How many kids would rather have a Honda, than an Taurus, or a Malibu? They have absolutely no experience, just know what they are told by ads to be cool. Oh, and the Toyota truck, is in my opinion, a down-right, butt-ugly, no guts design. Toyota has NEVER had any styling. Look at any of their vehicles, and it is a lump of other styles, no real design elements, no real statements of their own. The first one I ever saw, I saw the Ford hidden under the skin, and even the name showed no imagination, lifted straight from Ford, T100. Give me a break. I owned a Japanese car while in Japan, but I will NEVER own another. ........ If we can't build it, I don't need it, and we da..... well CAN build it, and, WILL

amen.

anyone who's been overseas will understand what it is about american cars; and how everyone else plays w/ US cars overseas (tarriffs)... it is infuriating seeing people my age (mkay, maybe a lil younger since i'm now 'upper 20s' lol), praise imports...

it's kinda sad we think so highly of european and japanese cars, while in europe, people idolize fords and chevys like they're from out of this world; and they can't get them because they're so much more expensive over there.. (25000 dollar base or 35000 dollar mildly loaded focus anyone?). it's funny though what they think in europe of japanese cars...

I think the mods removed your think. I don't think you can post links from another forum(something with copyright I think).

Now come on guys. If i bought a tundra I could drive up and down a huge teeter totter, I can slame on brakes before I run of a huge mountain. I can brake and accelerate precisely so I don't get my head chopped off by two huge swinging hammers. Now I don't see a Ford doing that.

Whoa whoa whoa man get that cooler off my tailgate you will bend it. What the, man you bent it you jerk. What do you got in there a cinderblock or something. Uhh its just a twelve pack. O well it must be a saftey feature thing or something. Hey did you know this truck can ride up a big teeter totter. Yeah this truck is awesome.

And toyota
