don't know if this is the right forum since i normally hang out in the 7.3 forums but... does anyone know where i can find a rebuilt transmission for an 87 ranger?? it's a reg cab v6 i believe 2wd
Have you thought about getting yours rebuilt at a good transmission shop in your area? At least then you would know what you've got. The shop should be able to give a warranty with it too.
The one I got for my 88' 2.3L was a rebuilt Mazda 5sp from a place called Man-Tans. They sell rebuilt units over the phone and on eBay. I just did a quick search and they have one for ~$550.

we just want something VERY cheap... all it's used for is to drive to my dad's shop about 5-6 miles away and back home... we don't wanna waste the amount of money into it that a tranny shop would charge
Then try a junkyard. the trans out of any ranger that has a 2.3 or a 2.9 will have the same input shaft you will just have to change the bellhousing. The gear is diffeent unfortunately so i would find one out from behind a 2.3 if at all possible.
