Bilstein 5100 shock question

I just ordered a set of Bilstein 5100 shocks for my truck. I have been reading on the internet and found that there is much discussion about how they are installed, boot up or boot down?

Anyone here have experience with them? How did you install yours? I saw a pic of a 4x4 truck with them installed boot up and there is discusssion all over about it.

Anyone?

These are the ones that I ordered (set of four though):

Install boot down. My truck is a 2002 and I'm running those exact same shocks.

You can tell by two ways, the easy way is the Bilstein label. The letters will be right side up when you mount (and the boot will be down). The other not-so-obvious way is the top and bottom mounts are different, just slightly. Compare to the old shock and you'll see.

Thanks, Curtis. I new someone here would know. Hopefully they will be here by Friday so my son and I can install this weekend.

We replaced the sway bar links this past weekend and it amazing how much better the truck handles in corners.

I just installed mine the same way the stock shocks were mounted. IIRC boot down on the front and boot up on the rears.

I just installed mine last month.. I don't think you can install them up side down anyway.. The mounting holes in the shock are different diameters on each end..

Be sure to just check the arrows like Pocket says. Bilstein actually makes upright shocks for certain applications also. I got into an arguement with a buddy about this once and ended up calling them to settle things once and for all. Depending on your application, mounting upside down/ right side up can vary. If Pocket has the same shocks then I'm sure he's right. Enjoy!

Yes, they are all mounted boot down. The pic that you posted, there is the Bilstein label, and that label also has the model number. The labels can be read without me turning my head upside down... lol

Question

Are these shocks just for lifted trucks,or can they be used on a stock suspension?

They are for both

I have a stock suspension under mine. I do not recall the part numbers off the top of my head but I found them on their site very easy.

I am happy with the performance they gave the truck.

There are different model numbers depending on the size lift you have. Also it varies by year.... 2005+ have different shocks than 1999-04's.
