I have just recently recieved a recall on my 93 F150 4.9L, that the fuel pressure regulator had to be changed. I was wondering if there was a direct replacement adjustable regulator that could be put in (thinking of goiong to the 19# injector) and i hear you need the adjustable regulator.
If you do go 19lb injectors, you need to get the AFPR. Otherwise you will be pushing out entirely too much fuel and you'll be running rich as hell. There are no direct swap-in regulators so you will have to 'adjust' a normal one as per Eddie's directions (http://bigblocksix.com/Eddie/injectorswap/).
In this case, I believe FordPerf300 is talking about NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 00V424000.
Defect Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS AND CAB CHASSIS EQUIPPED WITH GASOLINE ENGINES AND DUAL FUEL TANKS. THE CARBON STEEL FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR IN THE FUEL SYSTEM CAN WEAR OUT DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR MALFUNCTIONS, IT CAN CAUSE HIGH FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE, WHICH DAMAGES THE FUEL PUMP CHECK VALVE. THIS ALLOWS FUEL TO BE TRANSFERRED FROM ONE TANK TO THE OTHER, POSSIBLY OVERFILLING THE NON- OPERATING TANK, RESULTING IN FUEL OVERFLOW PAST THE FILLER CAP.
Consequence Summary:
FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE.
Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL HAVE A STAINLESS STEEL FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR INSTALLED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 9, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-866-436-7332. (SEE PREVIOUS NHTSA RECALL 93V-125/FORD RECALL 93S68).
Thats not the most recent one, and if you've got the dual tanks (which I imagine is true because of the above recall) and you are having a problem of the rear tank filling the front tank, that has also been recalled (ID 01I008000).
would i get a recall since im the second owner of my truck? i dont want the dam thing blowin up on me. so far i havent had this problem w/ the dual fuel tanks...i dunno
I don't know. You should, but I don't know if it really works that way. You might want to give your local dealership a call and see what they've got to say.
If you've never taken the truck to a Ford dealership for repair, they have no way of knowing you own the truck now.
When I took my truck for a emergency brake recall, they took my VIN numbers off of the truck, and took my name and address. I take it that Ford now knows I have the truck, even though I bought it used.
So if any of you haven't visited them yet, and you bought your trucks used, you may want to go see them.
