I have a 98 5.4l Expedition that is giving me the code 0102
I have replaced the mass air flow sensor with one from autozone
and the plastic cap behind the throttle body (it was not cracked or leaking)
but it is still giving me the code.
What is the next step?
Do I replace the pcm?
I have had a K&N cold air intake in the expedition for about 3 years and this is the first time i have had this problem.
PS. Before I changed the maf, I cleaned the old one with electric cleaner spray
I checked the voltage to the harness and the maf while connected and with the truck running. The only voltage that I found was 14.6 on the red wire. All of the others were zero.
The funny thing is that the check engine light was not on and the car drove fine for a while. After about 5 minutes, the truck started idling rough and jerking out of 1st and 2nd gear again.
I also checked the ohms on the middle two prongs of the maf and they measure infinite. The outer two did not read anything.
Haynes manual has a round harness for the mass air flow
Can anyone convert the round harness prongs to the flat harness that I have in my 1998 5.4l exp? I am trying to follow the diagnostic test for checking the correct voltage and ohms for the mass air flow troubleshoot
Here is the FACTORY diagnostic from the 1998 PCED. The entry point for your reported fault code is step DC6. Refer to the preface for connector views. Note that the procedure is NOT specific to the Expy, you will have to isolate the correct data from the whole set.
Red - Vehicle Power (HOT in START or RUN)
BLK/WHT - Vehicle Ground
Tan/Lt Blu - MAF Ret
Lt Blu/Red - MAF signal output
Verify the integrity of both the ground and the MAF return.
Measure the MAF signal while at hot idle. It should measure between 0.7 and 0.9 vdc. If you have the correct input and the correct grounds but read zero at idle, the sensor is defective assuming your test procedure is free from errors.

when i connect the maf sig + and the gnd - terminal start the engine i get zero volts
this is the second brand new maf sensor that i have bought in two weeks.
Could something in my electrical system be craping the sensors out
i found the problem the wiring harness wires as they travel under the filter were exposed and were all stripped. All of the wires were touching each other. I'm about to go to a junkyard and locate another harness. I hope the have not shorted out my pcm
