Well.......... we had a crew of nine guys Friday and Saturday and maybe ten or eleven tomorrow. The job should be done by tomorrow afternoon except for a few gates and such that we will leave till next year. This was too much too take on at once (6 1/2 miles total - 4 1/2 miles of 4 wire barb onto 4-5" posts every 12' using 2" staples and 2 miles of 2 strand onto 3" posts every 40' with a rebar between each). Along with the 6-7" x 8' corner posts and all the stays to be built has me needing a half day off or so!!!!!!
All the while cattle prices are not getting any better.
We will be buying another 30 or 40 cows (maybe on my half day off) in the not too distant future. With the prices they are at, our hay reserves, expanded pasture and hayland, and good water supply, what the hell give it a whirl. Hopefully the prices will be in the toilet for only a year or two. There will be some deals on equipment thats related to livestock production as some of them are still not recovered from the BSE thing. Stuff like headgates, oilers, cattle trailers, etc will be at some cheap prices if my crystal ball(s) is(are) working !!
I guess there is always good and bad in every situation, now it`s good if one wants to build up the cattle herd and bad if one wants to sell out.
Too bad there are so many ups and downs.
I have a quarter of excellent farm land 3 minutes east of Saskatoon and the silly part is I get $4,000 a year for the land rent and $9,000 for the 2 acres with an average house on it....
It wont be long and that land will be worth a crazy amount, maybe it already is Morris! The price will only increase. I know a guy between Stoon and Aberdeen that doesnt have to work anymore after selling some land to a developer.
Your land 3 minutes east of saskatoon msut be worth a fortune right now Morris!
The land I bought has went up drastically in price since when I bought it.
I got about 12 grand for the day that was on it this year, and they didnt take a second cut cause they couldnt afford it!
