The other day when switching from 2 wheel high drive to 4 wheel high drive a loud bang sound was heard from under the cab. I haven't had the need to use the 4 wheel drive in a number of years. The truck went in 4 wheel drive ok but when the need to switch back, it took several attempts of rocking the dash switch to get it back into 2 wheel drive. Now when trying to put the vehicle back into either 4 wheel high or low range nothing happens. Found that there is no power to either the electronic dash switch or the tranfer case shift motor. I have heard that Ford has been having problems with transfer case motors but since I seem to not be getting electric power at either control there must be something else in these circuits thats holding out the necessary power.
Before I have the transfer case motor replaced I'm wonder if it could be something else.
Also I've noticed that when I first turn the key I'm hearing a clicking sound from behind the dash.It clicks about 7 times & then stops. Also the same thing happens when I finally start the engine. I've never heard this before.
I don't know where to begin to find out where the power supply comes from that feed these controls. I've checked all the small fuses that I could, both under the hood & dash & they seem to be okay.
Also, when all is said & done can one change out the transfer case shift assembly, if bad, or does it need to be done by a Ford mechanic?
SOunds like it could be a relay Check Autozone.com they have wiring diagrams online
for free and a lot of other info to boot almost don't have to buy a manual. We had a
250 that would be a bear to get out of 4wd and you had to pull the connector off
and back on a few times and it would release. Check for corrosion on the wires and
The Golden rule!! USE IT OR LOSE IT!! you have to get into a routine say every pay
day or whatever (filling up, drivethru, etc.) put into 4wd and just drive through the drive thru or at the gas station and then on the same day while it is in your mind and
you get on your street put it in 4 lo and drive a bit. Of course don't go fast or turn
tight but just basically use it so it gets lube and it is there when you do need it!!
Or you can go out to Bubba mud ranch in Auburndale and really use it.
