After reading the forums on here about it. The problem is licked! (took me a little under 10 mins to fit my hand back there and get it swapped)
I also took apart my dash last week to trace
A.) Why is my column smoking?
B.) Why is my O/D not working?
I'm the 2nd owner of my '00 F-150 XLT S/C 4x4 (5.4)
Looks like the 1st owner put a remote for the door locks on it. I didn't know this, because I never received any remotes when I bought the truck. After taking the dash apart I found that it streched the O/D cable causing it to snap and short out causing the smoking and blowing the fuse.

Fixed!!
Threw out the remote box. (straight to the trash) reconnected the lock wires, waited for my new shift lever to come in (installed it Friday), put the O/D fuse in. Worked beautifully!!
The truck no longer looks like C3P0. I also used the SeaFoam product. The truck seems to be doing just fine. She sounds great, looks great (thanks caliber collision for making it go away)
I got a solding iron for next weekends project. FIXING THAT "odometer"
It never works when you need to know your milage.
