Water in fuel light doesn't go out when waiting to start truck. I've drained the filter bowl and still the water in fuel light doesn't go out. Could this be a problem with the sensor or ???
Water in fuel sensor and the fuel bowl heater are the same thing on these trucks. If yours won't start, check your fuses (I keep thinking it's fuse #30, not sure if I'm right). Fuel bowl heaters are known to blow fuses and cause a no-start condition when they fail. Also another taletail sign is either no WTS lamp, or the water in fuel light constantly on.
I also have troubel rememebering the fuse number, Curtis. Fuse #30 sounds right though. If the Wait to Start lamp does not illuminate when you turn the key to Run before cranking, then that fuse is probably blown and you're getting no power to the PCM.
Does the truck crank over fine, but not fire off? Any smoke coming out of the exhaust as it's cranking?
Thanks for your help. I checked the fueses and they r ok. the wait to start lamp lights up and wont go out as well as the service engine and water in fuel. This happened to me last week and I thought it might be the cps so i got a new one from ford and replaced it. That didn't fix it so I also put in a new fuel filter and once that was in everything was fine until today. Now it's doing it all over.
Make sure that bowl is full of fuel then unplug the stupid sensor and see if it will start. Ought to be a single plug at the rear of the bowl with a pair of wires.
Just got done trying your idea on unpluging the sensor. It worked. Started right up. I guess this mean the sensor is faulty? How do i go about replacing it? Thanks for your help. Don't know what i would do without this site.
Not so fast, I cannot find the heater element on either site. I will try the shop manual for a part # next.
Nope, nothing there either. Might need to dig more or call dealer.
