here is the pics of my exhaust i promised. After looking at it closely, i see right before it gets to the muffler the tubing looks newer. im thinking the previous owner just took out the cats and welded up some straight pipe?
ok so quick question, i'm moving to tX next year and they have inspections/emissions. WIll they smog my truck or just look it over to make sure its not throwing codes? What type of cat should i get to put on there to make it pass? Will i have to get 2 cats or just 1? Maybe a hi flow like magnaflow or flowmaster?
Texas will almost definitely look to see if there's a cat installed on the vehicle. Most places (except in the really large cities, and even then you can usually find a place that won't) don't actually hook up the smog hose to your exhaust, but some do.
One cat is what it came with, one cat is all you need. If you can find a good price on one, just buy it, weld it on, and go.
If I remember Texas inspection laws, they basically check the following:
Exhaust, Lighting, Wipers, Glass, Tires, Horn.
Some go in real depth on these, but most important is if your exhaust has all the parts. Most places don't check to see if your cat was gutted or not, though. Lighting is just if all your exterior lights work, hi-beams, blinkers, etc. Wipers are just if they're both there and work. Glass means no cracks in the windshield, and all the other windows are actually there. Tires have to have a certain amount of tread left, but I don't know the %. I believe the old penny trick works there. Horn has to function too.
After that, some places check other wierd things, but it's not often you find this. Check those things on your truck, fix what's broken, and you should be fine.
P.S. You can sometimes find some of the out of the way service stations that'll do a quick lights/horn/wipers inspection and pass you without anything else, but be careful who you ask to find said place.
Ive used these cats for a bunch of friends that were catless. OBD2 and it kept the light off. Very small a reasonable. Passed inspection for him. Here you go. Put this in the pipe before the muffler. They are 2.5 ID so they will fit right over the pipe you have. Just measure and cut and slip it in and clamp it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-5-C...QQcmdZViewItem
