Top end swap

In the next few months one of the many things I plan on doing is a new upper/lower intake (cobra 5.0), either a set of AFR 165s or some GT40s still debating that one, and possibly a new cam or just some new 1.7 rockers after I get through emissions.

Now my question is what all would I have to mess with to make this (see below) intake work on my truck? The obvious ones to me are the throttle body, iac, air intake.. would my fuel rail work on this or would I need a new one for it? Thanks for the input guys.

Your heads will be the same as the Stang 5.0 so the manifold will work. Ur truck IAC will transfer over. Youll have too look and see if the rail from your truck is the same as A mustang. If your rail is the same as my 5.8L on my truck then it should work. If you need I do have a 5.0L stang and if you need some pics let me know. The throttle cable will have to be changed. The stang one pulls from the rear as the TB sits facing the passanger inner fender.

The more I think about it the more I'm starting to think I should just get a new aftermarket truck intake that'll replace the one I've got... or port the one I have. Alot of price to convert all this.. hmm..

Do you have a pic of it by chance?

Yeah, like I said it almost makes more sense for me to get one of those edelbrock truck intakes that'll still work with all my stock components.

Hmmm, I'll keep this in mind. I'm not sure how long you're going to have it.. I'm assuming it's just the bare manifold, right?

Hmmm, I'll let you know. Did you notice a big gain with the new intake?

The stock truck intake easily outflows the HO intake.. you don't "need" a different intake to make more power, just a cam that opens the valves enough to let the motor breath.. your motor has the smallest cam ever put in the 5.0.. same thing used in the late 70's fuel crunch era.

Well, like I said in my first post.. my stock truck intake isn't going to flow enough to accomadate the AFRs.. I wouldn't think. Do you think my stock intake will support heads/cam/exhaust or will it become the restriction?

Glad to see ur gettin on the ball Ryan...did my endeavors give ya a little push?Another thing too...you can take the car upper intake and do a 180 with it so the TB is facing the driver's fenderwell instead...might make it a little easier for the air induction as well.......Good Luck

I noticed huge gains with gt-40's and a gt-40 manifold, but mine is on a 5.8. I used a 5.0 HO cam from a 87-93 mustang, advanced it 2* with a FRPP 9 Keyway timing set and bumped timing to 16*. It's an awesome feeling to pull up next to other trucks and walk all over them.

And all this power with 33" tires and 3.55's I can't waitfor my 4.10's.

It all depends upon what cam you select. Are you going after 5-6000rpm HP? If so then get a short runner car style intake, as the others have testified the shorter runners make more power up higher. The motor will be weaker below 3000rpm when you do this so be prepared for that.
If however you select a cam for idle to 4000rpm power, then the stock truck intake will be plenty.. even with AFR 165s.
