Question brake problem

I have an 86 f-250 with a 6.9 IDI. It has a problem with the brakes. When i am on the brakes pretty hard the truck hops and jerks really bad. I'v been told its a warped rotor, but the pads and rotors are like brand new. My father seems to think its in the rear, but it dosen't make much sense to me since all the real weight is in the front. Now a few weeks ago i had to replace a small line in the front left side, but I only did bleed that front left side. After replacing that line it was parked till now and it never jerked till now, So does anyone know if it is a warped rotor or a bleeding problem, or is it something else?

I would think rear brake drums are possibly oversized.......mine did that but mildly not violently. Found that Ford had cut the drums too large...... there are maximums on the drums in most case.

If the rotor were warped, you would likely feel an even pulsating in the pedal.
Easy enough to check, pop the front wheels off and , if you have a dial gauge and magnet mount, set it up and rotate the rotor and check for warp, lacking the dial gauge, get something sturdy like a big block of wood that won't move around and tape a small chunk of heavy paper or light cardboard to it, set it to where it barly touches the rotor surface and turn the rotor and watch it to see if the rotor moves away from the paper or into it ( bad ) or stays just touching all the way around ( good .

If OK, chances are you just need to bleed the whole system, and possibly adjust the rear brakes. The automatic adjusters on these things aren't very good.

If you can't find anything wrong with the brakes, it could be a bad front tire (broken cord, etc). It happened to me a while back. When I put on the brakes, it would pulsate and pull to one side.

I did feel a pulsation in the pedal as well, but mainly the whole truck hops and jerks.

Has any oil , fuel or grease got on the brake pads, or back into the drums on the rear. Oil soaked brakes can give you all kinds of fidgety behaviour

What kind of shape are the center pivot bushings on the front end in? and the rest of the steering linkage?

My thought is the same as RLDSL. My back brakes (one side) got real agressive and started locking up when it shouldn't have. Oil from the rear diff leaked out of the seal and onto the pads and drum.

Well i was just out in my shop and i have all four apart and there was no oil on any of the brakes, but i found out the rear drums were recently shaved. After looking at them both closely, the right rear drum was not shaved all the way down, so the outer side of the shoe was only rubbing and wore about a 3/8 in. of a groove in the shoe. Tomarrow i am gonna go to a machine shop to get um both shaved, since all the brakes are new. Hopefully it solves my jerking problem, if not, i am gonna get the rotors shaved and re-bleed the brakes all around.

Before you turn them down, get the max service diameter on the drums and see where you are.

If you are at or over the max service diameter, there is no use spending your money getting them turned.
