Sloppy steering

Hi
I just replaced the steering box on my '95 F150 and the brackets and bushings for the radius arm.
I still have @ 2-4" of slop left to right in the steering wheel. After a search of the FTEF archives the most likely problem is the couplings in the lower shaft that connects to the steering box. The Chilton manual has a less then adequate diagram to show what coupling should be replaced. Can anyone suggest a resource for this info???

Thanks

A J

Have someone turn the wheel back and forth, no need to go all the way lock to lock. (Only rock it back and forth running out the play)
Watch all the tie rod ends while they do that, any that have play need replaced.

Also check all ball joints for play and the IFS pivot point bushings.

Your post is a little hard to follow as to what "couplings" you are speaking of but you should not have any play in the new steering box if that is what you are referring to.

about 12 inches up from the steering box, there is a slider . this is where the upper column meets the lower column. there is a teflon bushing in there. look in through the driver side wheel well and you should be able to see where the 2 shafts meet have someone rock the steering wheel back and forth. if the bushing is gone, you will know rite away.
