O.K. I will give my negatives and positives of my first big hauling/towing trip with my OBS-PSD
negatives: -If not on good smooth pavement the truck rides like a tank
-My truck is dang loud!
-Indiana and Kentucky's interstates are horrible compared to Tn.
-MPG is not very good at 65mph and up
-Did I mention my suspension is stiff as a brick? Being my first big
I don't really know what to compare it to.
positives: -The engine ran good and strong and never missed a beat
-The engine temp never got above O in Normal and most of the
time was right below N--I guess that is positive
-When running around 60-62 mph with a 16K pd. load I still got
10-11 mpg. I think the key is to keep the RPMs around 2000
-The truck seems to pull really good and has 273K miles--did it
pull even better new!?
If I think of more I'll post---give me your thoughts
Well, about the stiff ride. Its a 350 straight axle its just how it is. There are some things you can do to make it ride better though. A reverse shackle kit and some superduty springs will go a long way. I did the reverse shackle kit a couple of years ago and I say alone its not worth it. Tomorrow im going to ifinally nstall my x code superduty springs. From what hear they make a huge difference. I'll let you know tomorrow. Its going to be a long day, lots planned for truck.
Did you have any reservationa about taking your truck? My truck runs great but it is still eleven years old. I wory about the fuel pump or something like that going out on me on a long trip(especially pulling) When I finally get the money to go out west and buy a big tractor, i'll probably take my brother-in-law's '05 f350 because it'll still be under warrenty. Did you make any money with the insane fuel prices?

Yes, I had anxiety because of all the things that can go wrong. I still cleared about $400 after expenses. But overall not worth it to me because I was gone from 11am Friday until 8 pm Saturday. I ended up doing a lot of the hay loading because the teenage punks didn't show up. I would have been home about two hrs. earlier if more help had of been there.
