Red face PTC Supplememtal Heater

Does anyone know how this heater operates or what should be expected? My window sticker lists it as a $250 option, but I can't tell the difference in heat, find no special controls and can't find anything about it in the owners manual.

I also could not find mention of this topec elseware on the forum.

There are no controls for it. It automatically works/turns on when you turn the heat on.

You can't tell a difference in heat compared to what?

Thanks for the reply RangerEdgeO2

I can't tell the difference compared to my 05 SD. I usually run the climate control on Auto. I thought I would get some early indication like the fan comming on sooner? But like the 05, the first heat I get is from the heated seats

It is still supposed to take a minute or 2 to get warm. I have no idea if mine is working since it still has not gotten cold enough to use anything but the A/C. I am sure it will work though. Everything else on this truck has been great.
I did not have a 6.0 so not sure how long it would take those to start putting off heat, I know in my 02 Duramax it would take 5-10 minutes to start heating.

OK.... I just went out to test it. It's 44f here in Detroit. I started it, set the controls to "Auto" and ran the temp setting up to 90f. I felt no heat during the first two minutes. No fan. I then manuall turned the fan on and felt some heat. Not great, but obviously warmer that the outside air.

It appears the fan, set on auto, will not run until engine temp comes up??

I notice how it heats up right away..At least I start getting warm air. It was 25deg. and as soon as I got out of my drive and up the road about 100ft. I felt it.

That's normal from what I have read (On explorers with EATC (electronic automatic temperature control)). The EATC blocks the fan from running b/c the EATC waits a pre-set amount of time for the engine to heat up thereby heating up the air b4 turning on the fan to prevent a blast of cold air going into the cab.

To bypass this, instead of hitting auto, hit the button that has the air coming out of the vents (Just like you did to manually turn on the fan), that will bypass the 'auto' and the fan will kick on right away.

The engine temp on mine takes forever to warm up compared to my 6.0 liter. the supplemental heat starts pumping warm air within a few minutes.
