I have a 92 F150 4.9L that has a slight hesitation was the gas pedal is barely pressed down. It seems to have this hesitation whenever it is at this point. If you press it farther down or let up it clears the trouble. I've had a tuneup (new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, gas filter, air filter & PVC) also had injectors flushed. I have also replaced the TPS, mass airflow sensor, H02 sensor. But trouble persits. It acts like a low speed miss, but it does it when you are on a level highway and keepeing the pedal down just enought to cruise at highway speeds. As soon as I let up or press the gas pedal down further is stops hesitating. Any ideas ??
Well, it is a guess but you might still have a bad "Throttle position sensor" or possibly a very dirty throttle plate. It sounds like you have changed most likely parts. Does the orange "check engine" light come on? You also might want to check your initial timing.
try your EGR valve. it is on the back of the intake and has a green vacuume hose running to it. pull the green hose off and test drive it. if it runs good then just leave it unhooked unless emissions testing is required in your area.
I did the EGR restrictor plate and it works OK (a barely notable difference). But my fuel pump died this weekend and when I ran the codes, wouldn't you know it, #33 came up, EGR out of specs. So the motor knows. Working on the fuel pump, I ended up reading about low pressure and high pressure fuel problems (prssure regulator). It didn't give signs/symptoms of these problems and I wonder if that could cause that kind of problem?
Had the same problem with my 92 4x4. Just put a restrictor plate in last night between the EGR valve and intake and the problem is gone. Been stumped with that a couple of years. Did the same thing replacing everything under the hood was getting expensive. Try it, its a free fix !!!
How will this affect gas milage? right now I'm getting 18-19 MPG on the highway and don't want to screw that up. Would it be worth replacing the EGR? I'm in New Jersey and emissions tests are a bear.
The beauty of the restrictor plate is in being able to remove it very easily if for some reason it does not work as desired. You are not altering anything that cannot be returned to factory design. You are out a small piece of metal and a little time. If your mileage sucks or emissions fail remove it.
IT'S A VACUUM LEAK!!!!!
check the vacuum lines and replace the black ends with some black rubber tubing. The black end pieces get hairline cracks in them that are easily missed.
I went to my local auto parts store PepBoys, asked the guy at the desk for the price of a EGR gasket, i have a 93 F150, he said it's $20 and a special order part..... Does this seem strange to anyone?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jun-02 AT 07:07 PM (EST)]I bought one of the two I used for the conversion at Pep Boys (that's all they had, so I went up to the Ford dealer for the second), and it was a buck more than the stock Ford one, but it was still cheap.
Autozone part number: 72649
Manufacturer: Felpro
Price: $1.59
As per my local autozone (well, as per autozone.com saying thats what it should be at my local autozone).

P.S. Talk to PepBoys and say "Considering how expensive it is, perhaps you'd like to buy a couple spares i've got for $10 each?" Actually, the monkey behind the counter probably quoted you on the wrong gasket or for a kit that includes the gasket.
