the auto trans in the 99 zx2 I has been getting "soft" lately so I changed the fluid like I do every year and the filter. It is extremely soft now and revs about 300rpms between 1-2 under moderate(a 3500rpm shift) I changed the fluid with moble 1 multi car sythetic that is a mercon fluid. It does not slip in and other gear nor when I hammer on it on the freeway. The fluid does snot smell burnt no is there varnish or flakes on the stick. It has 4 marks on the stick add cold-full cold, add hot -full hot. The level is currently just aboouve the full cold up just a hair under the add hot mark after a 20 minute trip. would an 1/8 of a quart make it slip like that??I'm going to drive it 15 minutes and bring it to the full hot mark tomarrow. I figured I just wasn't driving the car hard enough, it shifts normaly at about 2500rpm, kinda low for this DOHC 2l. Has my "grandpaing killed the car it rarely gets over 3krpms ever I just tried to tak care of it and. it died anyway. I guess I should have ran the dog snot out of it(probably would not be slipping right now)
PleaSE help,
It's my daily driver/school car
Dustin
I hooked it up to a machine that said my "transmission range senor bad" could the senor have anything to do with firmness, lor is it something else???
How much does the sensor run $$$$?
There is no code that says the range sensor is bad. It says that something is wrong with the range sensor. It could be a bad sensor or it could be the wiring to the sensor. The computer can't tell the difference.
Didn't I just write that it is either the sensor or the wiring? I can't tell which one from here, and neither can the computer that spit out the code. You'll need to do some diagnostics to figure out which one.
Or you can buy a new sensor and install it. If that doesn't fix the problem then find the wiring problem.
