I am wanting to instal a remote start system i got years ago and never put on. I am havein problems figureing out how to either get to the ignition switch. Where is the ignition switch located? or which color wires do i need to hook to? I have a 94 F-150 with the 300 inline and e4OD tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Ben
If its a bulldog I know they offer a t-harness, takes minutes to install. Doing it the hard way, one wire at a time will take a couple hours if you know what you're doing. More if you don't.
Yes Bulldog offers the t-harness, but even if his unit isn't Bulldog he can use the resources on their site for help.
I unfortunately didn't know about the t-harness when I did my install, so the install for remote start + keyless entry took me around 6 hours
Oh yea I know BD has great color charts on it's site.
Next time you install one try one of them T-harness's. Ya unbolt the main harness from the firewall, bolt the t-harness to it and then the harness of the vehicle to it. Then hook the lead to the brake light switch wire and one to the running lights and your done. Again more if it does the windows and door locks.
I've done a few, don't ever offer to install one for a buddy in a GM with the newer coded key system! The older ones with the resistior key ain't to bad, a standard relay and a resistor that matces the key output is all it takes to get around that.
The coded key needs a relay and a temp by pass on the theft system to allow it to turn over and is a pain to do.
They make a little box (kit) to put a copy of the key in under the dash too, doesn't work, have to reposition the key in it all the time.
Used one on my moms car and I have to pull it all down and fix that key all the time.
And yea my "couple hours" was a very consevitive estimate.
Well i got the remote start for free so i cant just take it back and get a different one. I dont mind a little electrical work. It is a ready remote brand remote start only. thanks for the link to the wire diagram it helped a ton.
i got started on installing and when i went to hook up the acc wire i had to get out the haynes manual to find the right one and it appears that my wires are slightly different then it shows on their site and i dont have a wire hooked to the ign2 terminal on my ignition switch is this common? or do the wires change positions in the plug as they come out of the harness???
