MPG Loaded

Just wanted to check with everyone here to see about what they got. I just put a new fuel bowl and a new fuel pump in, and wanted to see if mine was comparable to everyone else now.

Ok, load one was a overhead crane coming from Cincinatti going to chicago.
it weighed in at 10,984 lbs on scales. minus the gallon of fuel burnt sitting waitn to laod. I got 11.3 mpg at 73 mph with crusie on going up I 65.

Load two was guard rail to easteren KY from Chicago. said on sheet 12,440 lbs.
fuel mileage was figured to be 10.1 mpg

This didnt include the weight of the trailer. The ground until the last 60 miles of KY was pretty flat. I used cruise the whole time. Speed was betwen 65 to 75 mph. I thought it was outstanding, but have talked to a few guys that said they were geting 13 hauling 12000 lbs. I cant get that for NOTHIN. Since I put this new fuel pump in, my truck runs 200 percent better than it ever has. With these loads before, I would have been happy to see 10 mpg hauling about ANYTHING. Most any load I hauled would drop it to the 9s, and if over 13k on the trailer, down to the 8s. Any feedback on this?

Not to hijack your post, Todd, but after reading your post I realize I really have to do something with my truck.
Keep in mind this thing is a completely stock 97 extended cab 4x4 w/ 3:55 gears and automatic.

I haven't owned it very long and today was my first real trip with a load. 6000 pound trailer (empty) on mostly flat interstate, cruise on in overdrive at 72mph for 145 miles - 9.6 mpg.
Return trip - the only difference was loaded (10k ?) and a stiff head wind. Overdrive off and cruise set at 63 (pedal was near the floor most of the time) - 7.3 mpg.

Oh... what to do?

Today's load....

That must have been one HECK fo a head wind to have to kickthe OD off. The things that helped me the most were the kwik filter mod, and fuel pump. Ran one tank of BIO thru the truck to clean everything out. Took fuel bowl out and was AAMMAAZZEEDD at the crap that it had broke loose. Washed the fpr out, the fuel bowl, and ran the crap out of it. Been happy until I heard that some are getting even better than I am loaded with more than 2 ton or more than what I carry.

I did read it, and the only way you could figure that mileage is if you drove about 5 miles and 3/4 of it was down hill. Other wise, you have to read my post above. LOL

WHAT!?!?!?!

Then your truck should be reported to ford R & D so they can figure out how to build all trucks like yours. LOL
