im installing a remote start.i need to know wich wires to tap into at the ignition switch for the starter. i have wiring diagrams but they only show the deisel enigines as side notes. also what else needs to have power for our trucks to start(other than glowplugs) since there is no "ignition" .
On my truck I found that the ign wire was a black w green stripe and the starter kick wire was red w lite blue but I think that there are two ign wires come to think of it.(red with green is the other I think...) I had a listing of all the wires from bulldog security and just tried to check for you and the connection was refused so maybe their server is down for a bit. My problem was the instructions said the wait to start light needed to have a relay and I've been told the glow plugs are still heating up when the light has already gone off so it seems to use the wts wire wouldn't be the right deal. I instead had the option to program the starter to wait to start for 30secs which doesn't seem like enough time but it works. As far as pain in the rear... the tach wire (white w pink) is down in the mass of wires behind the parking brake and there seemed to be three of them with a white/red also look real close w a bright light. i tapped into the first one and had to try another before it worked. I will look in the garage this afternoon and find the color code chart too. Good luck.
thanks. i figured it out myself. turns out they are the same exact wires as my ranger were. what was throwing me off was the starter wire goes to the clutch switch then the starter relay. as far as the glow plugs mine has the wts sense wire also. my plan was to run it to the glowplug relay on the side that turns of with the glow plugs. only disatvanage i see is the long wait, but its beter than failed start attempts in cold weather. after i get everything hooked up i realize the remote start itself is bad, i thought i rembered something being wrong with it when i took it off my ranger turns out i was right. i have another one but i ran out of time cause it gets dark at 5'oclock now. there is always next weekend.
I wonder if the "Shut Down Timer" wiring diagram would be of a help in locating the right wire for power, etc. I don't have one but perhaps someone might.
I would put my mon$y on Action, that guy has everything.
Thanks guys. i figured the wiring out (i can now hotwire a PSD... LOL). i dont think it was my problem. Both of the remote start units i had were old units and i think they were the problem. I may revisit this next fall with a new remote start unit.
This is very interesting! Thanks for everyones write-ups! I was considering a remote start, but was wondering and the WTS issue, and if the remote start can be used with these engines.. Now I know.. Interesting!
