oil changes...

do you guys replace the oil drain plugs copper gasket every oil change? i seem to have a hard time finding the part at auto zone or napa, they never have it. so i was wondering if i could just use my old one. the old one is well almost new, it was put on when i last had the oil done. so would a second round with it be bad?

thanks,

If ya put a fumoto drain valve in you'll never have to worry about the washer again.

Wink

Isn't it just a M14 copper washer that we need?? I just changed mine for the first time (first time I personally have changed the oil in my engine) and they are readily available where I am.

I always use a new copper washer. O'reilly's has them in a 3 pack here.

You can use it twice without a problem. The M14 washers will work and they are the easiest to find.

A new one with every change. I ran out once and tried using the old one and ended up with a danged drip! M14's are usually easy to find.

I change my gasket every time I change my oil but I use the plastic ones that you get at Napa.

I very seldom ever change a copper one.
I do torque the drain plugs to specifications, which is about 27.5 ft lbs. on this engine in our application.

The Fumoto might be a little slower but I like just putting the drain can under the valve and flippin the lever! Now if they could just make a drain valve in the bottom of the oil filter life would be grand!!!

Never noticed my Fumoto valve being that much slower but it is a whole lot cleaner and easier. And I have the one with the hose barb too.
