Unhappy The plug Demon finally got me

Wednesday morning it happend Ibacked out of the driveway put it in to 2nd went to take off and pop goes the weasel. Number 4 on the right bank came out. made some calls to a couple of dealerships and got some prices. One dealer we buy our trucks from for work quoted me $360 for labor & helicoil. If it need a coil or plug it was extra. The second dealer told me $700 that included coil and plug. I call a local garage who does the work I don't want to or don't have the time to. Very good mechanic and trustworthy. He told me around $100 just to helicoil the head. It cost me $225 for everything labor, helicoil, coil, and spark plug. He called this afternoon and said it broke the tabon the coil which I knew when I looked at it. I think it was a good deal since it was on the cold and windy side this week. Doing it out side in the dark this week would not been fun. Tomorrow I am going to change the rest of the plugs to make sure there are not any other are loose.

Was your blow out on the van, or the pickup? (I see both in your sig) Sounds like a really good price. Sometimes the rear of the engine on the van is easier to work on.
Perhaps you should get "him" to do the complete plug change.

It happend on the truck. I just got the truck at the end of May. I wanted to change the plugs becouse there was no service history with this truck. Our summers are so busy I didn't get to it. I'm still kicking my self for not doing it. I brought the truck home Friday night and it sat till yesterday. I changed the rest of the plugs and boots yesterday morning it took me about 3 hours give or take. I started with the 5th plug on the right bank becouse it looked like the hardest. I did the van before not sure which one was harder. With the van it was more time consuming becouse you have a lot more things to remove. Also the right bank has the filler tube for the tranny and the engine oil to work around. But the last two plugs are easier to get to with the dog house removed. The van is probably harder becouse of the things you have to remove and you can't see as well now that I think about it. I have to do the plugs in the van again, hopfully the weather is nice this week end.

Well I hope he really didn't use a helicoil because it won't stay in the head too long.
they have a tendancy to back out in a al head.
Timesert is the proper fix for this.IMHO
time will tell

They self-eject.

You should change yours or, at minimum, get under there and re-torque them all.

Ford spec is 14 ft/lbs. These guys http://www.blownoutsparkplug.com/ say to go to 30 ft/lb but I think that is way to high IMO.

I torqued them to 14ft/lbs should I go back and retorque them after running it. The shop that did it said he has had no problems with them. I trust his word he hasn't steered me wrong yet.

I've got about 10,000 mi. on my plug change including a trip to Phoenix with a 23' WW trailer. When I changed my plugs none were loose. I haven't been under there to check my plugs. I torqued to 14 ft./lbs. 2000 F250, 84,000 miles now.
