Tranny&Brake Controller

I have a 98 F 150 LAriat with a 5.4 and the E40D. I have noticed that while in O-Drive, if I slide my manual brake lever on my controller over whether the camper is attached or not, the tranny kicks out of o-drive. I originally discovered it with the camper hitched and figured the tranny was reacting to the drag I was inducing by hitting the trailer brakes. But as I said, it does it whether the camper is hitched or not. This is Ford's harness and I have a 7 and 4 pin connection/Tow package. I have put in controllers and 7 pin harnesses that were not OEM....There is nothing there to tell the tranny to down shift. Did Ford include something in their OEM harness that does this???

It's the BOO(Brake On Off) switch logic in the PCM. It will always unlock the torque converter when you apply the brake. I'll bet it isn't downshifting, but just unlocking the torque converter, and you're mistaking that for a downshift.

Thanks..I couldn't tell if it was an unlock or a down shift.

If the TC is unlocking, you should see your tach raise by 200-300 RPM...
